The starting dose of Jardiance is 10 mg by mouth once daily. It can be taken with or without food.
Your doctor will monitor your blood sugar while you take Jardiance. If the 10 mg dose is not enough, then after 4 to 12 weeks, the dose may be increased to 25 mg by mouth once daily.
Jardiance cannot be used to treat type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Use caution if you are an older adult, have kidney problems, have low blood pressure, or are taking a diuretic.
Jardiance and similar medications can cause ketoacidosis, even when blood sugar is at normal levels. It is more common during stressful situations like surgery.
Jardiance can increase cholesterol levels in some people.
Common side effects of Jardiance include:
Female genital mycotic infections (yeast infections)
Increased thirst
Urinary tract infections
The most common side effect is urinary tract infections (UTI), which are more common in women than in men.
